MgF₂ (Magnesium Fluoride)

Magnesium Fluoride, chemical formula MgF₂. It has a wide transmission range from 0.12 μm to 8.0 μm. High-quality VUV-grade MgF₂ is expensive, and lower-grade ones are used in infrared but inferior to CaF₂. It is strong, easy to machine and polish, slightly birefringent, so the optical axis should be cut perpendicular to the surface. Available products: lenses, windows, domes, prisms.
